Aix-en-Provence : presentation
Town of water, town of art...Aix-en-Provence was built and developed around those two values.
The name of the city comes from the latin "Aquae Sextiae", you will see a lot of fountains and basins in all the streets of the city : ornaments of the urban landscape, about forty public fountains testify to the styles and needs of a town which has integrated them in its art of living.
The city was frequented by the likes of Paul Cézanne, Émile Zola, Ernest Hemingway... and the art is still active with a lot of museum and music festival as the important opera festival, the 'Festival international d'Art Lyrique' founded in 1948.
Aix en Provence is a great location to stay when you want to visit Provence : between luberon and the cote d'azur.
